Fasting vs Starvation

QUESTION

What about the theory that says if we fast or starve ourselves the body stores fat? Also what about the other theory that says we need to eat throughout the day to keep our metabolism up?

ANSWER

Fasting and starvation diets are not the same. They create two very different metabolic states in the body. As for “speeding up the metabolism”, it may do this, but that’s because it HAS to in order to keep up with the constant onslaught of food coming in. And this creates a constantly elevated serum insulin level which means your body is constantly in fat STORAGE mode.
